what if someone issue you a lawyer letter?

hi just to ask what is someone issue you a lawyer letter. how to go about settling this case when you know you are not wrong.

as what i know when someone want to sue you you are most likely in the losing end. (In term of money) cos you need to pass all the fees and even you win the case.

i sold my printing biz to A. after 2 month he say my P&L was fake and he got evidence that my biz not earning money. so he issue me a lawyer letter for compensation demand. before he take over the biz he did view my p&L.

how to handle such situation?

His lawyer has to prove that your P&L is fake before they can sue you right?

If you think he is serious,
Prepare all the invoices and receipts for all income and expenses of the year(s) on the P & L you showed him. Check through all the transactions especially those on income because his case is mainly your business is losing money so as long as you can prove all revenue is true as indicated in the P&L, he has no case.

Note that in a civil case, the plaintiff has to prove his case and not you the defendent. In addition, you can engage a lawyer to counter sue him for the damages to your reputation as well as income losses due to his allegation.
