Newbie Seeking Advice for Trip from SG to JB

I will be in SG for a week at the Hilton in Orchard and was thinking about either a day or overnight trip to JB on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

Planning to take MRT (North South Line) then one of the local buses 950, 160, 170, 170X. Looks like it will take 1.5 hours. I have a US passport will I need anything else to go between JB and SG.

Any advice on where to go once I'm there would be appreciated.

Thanks

Why go on weekends? The jams will kill your mood. You'll be lucky if you can clear the customs/immigration checkpoints in 3 hrs.

Re: Newbie Seeking Advice for Trip from SG to JB

well, another way is express bus or cw2 from queenstreet bus terminal near bugis mrt but not recommended during Friday and weekend since queue will be long and high risk jam at the entrance to woodlands customs

Bookings for weekends sellout fast and you need to book 1 month in advance as each trip capacity is only 320 pax. Weekdays can just buy at the counter as not much pax.

Re: Newbie Seeking Advice for Trip from SG to JB

So no Visa is required for US, however it does look like during the weekend travel to JB from SG is a pain. There are several youtube videos on getting from SG to JB. Appreciate all the input

it's better if you travel mid week, you can save yourself 3 hrs each way from jam

Re: Newbie Seeking Advice for Trip from SG to JB

I have to work Monday to Friday, so for me I can leave on Friday or Saturday and return on Sun.

My options would be -
Leave as early as possible on Friday, then come back Saturday. Hoping the crowds on the train/bus is not too bad.
I was thinking of hiring a car - would be expensive but if I can find others wanting to go over at the same time can split cost. looks like 100SG per car and car can fit up to 7 people. Anyone interested PM me.
