E-scooter rider killed after being hit by bus at Bedok Reservoir Road

SINGAPORE: A 52-year-old man was killed after the e-scooter he was riding was hit by a bus on Thursday (Nov 30) morning.

The accident happened at the junction of Bedok Reservoir Road and Kaki Bukit Avenue 1 at about 10.30am, the police said. The rider was unconscious when he was taken to Changi General Hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries, the police added.

Channel NewsAsia understands that the man on the e-scooter was crossing the junction when he was hit by the SBS Transit bus.

The rider is understood to have dashed across and the bus, which had the right of way, could not stop in time.

Photos shared on social media showed the scooter pinned underneath the front part of the bus. The bus' windscreen was smashed.

Other photos showed a man, believed to be the e-scooter rider, lying on the road and bleeding from the back of his head.

This was the first of two accidents involving e-scooters on Thursday. At about 2.40pm, a 16-year-old was injured at Woodlands after being hit by a car.

In a reply to Channel NewsAsia's query, Ms Tammy Tan, senior vice president of corporate communications at SBS Transit, said the company is "very sad" that the accident happened.

"We are currently at the hospital with (the injured rider's) family to render assistance as best we can," Ms Tan added.
Police investigations are ongoing.

E-scooter rider on road

A motorcyclist spotted an e-scooter rider on the road along Tanglin Halt, travelling towards Commonwealth MRT.

Based on a longer version of the video, the e-scooter rider was spotted by the motorcyclist way earlier when he was preparing to turn right at the traffic junction.

After the motorcyclist turned right and caught up with the e-scooter rider, he could be heard repeatedly telling the e-scooter rider to get off the road:

Motorcyclist: “Hey, you’re not supposed to be on the road.”

E-scooter rider: [Inaudible voice that sounds like “What?”]

Motorcyclist: “You’re not supposed to be on the road.”

“They are not allowed on the road.”

“I advise him he don’t want to listen.”

The e-scooter rider slowed down but continued along the side of the road.

No wonder MIW will follow Sun Tze - kill (charge in court) to keep these idiots to follow the law.

Sad to see Singaporeans are literate - yes, we can read and write - but are uneducated. Students studying in Starbucks or McDonald are literate but inconsiderate. Don’t be surprised they will end up like this idiot.

i guess inconsiderateness stems from one's sense of entitlement; or it could be due to the stressful and fast paced lifestyle of a developed society; or as the hokkien simply put it: no upbringing

I especially dislike those that ride on pavements with very bright lights, loud music and full-face helmets with goggles. The stupidity of it all is that if they are not riding so fast, they probably do not need helmets. If they are not wearing helmets, they would be able to hear their music better so they don't have to blast it. Without those goggles, they also do not need the super bright lights. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out...

My only consolation is that I believe in natural selection. Sooner or later they will get themselves killed and we will have one less idiot in the country.
