Just lan lan suck thumb and collect the rank pay lah. Taxi drivers are just like hawkers. Going into pay claim is like opening the pandora box. ![]() If your taxi is in workshop due to accident through no fault of yours, comfort compensate daily $80 for loss of incone So you may want to use that as a guage. Rember it's $80 per day, not per shift. Another secret here... IRAS actually recognizes a taxi driver's daily income as $50. So that's the amount that you can use in your tax return and won't get into trouble. Don't ask where I get this info though. |

Those yellow tops, they actually own the cabs but it's a non transferable license. I'm not saying it technically correct here, but I'm just trying to avoid confusing you. Some drivers chose to hire a taxi directly from the company and they are responsible for paying the daily rental to the cab company. These people are known as hirers. They are also responsible for sending the cabs to companies workshop for regular maintenance. Now, while the hirer is responsible for paying the full day's rental, obviously they can't drive for 24 hours. They will die of fatigue, and is also a danger to other road users. This is where the "relief" comes in. Some drivers chose to "hirer" the cab from these hirers and pay these hirers for the hours they drive the cab. Usually, it's half the daily rental and for 12 hours daily. I say usually because this is depending on the negotiation between these "relief drivers" and the "hirers". Notice that the cab company does not figure here. Now, all the relief driver is responsible for is just pay his rental to the hirer, pay or pump the fuel that he use and probably cleaning the car. If he don't pay the hirer the rental due to whatever reasons, it's the hirer problem. To the cab company, the relief is sort of invisible. Relief don't get benefits like rent free days. Hirers do. But while relief can just quit driver literally by returning the key to the hirer without advance notice, hirers are normally bound by contracts, depending on how old the car is. If its a brand new car, then the contract is 1 year. Within this one year, he has to pay full rental regardless of rain or shine, healthy or sick. And if he can't find a suitable relief driver, imagine this... Everyday he open his eyes, he is already in debt of at least $150 (rental + fuel). Some people take 5 hours to make this amount. Some people take 7 hours. Only after this amount, then he begin to earn his salary. As for the relief driver, if he decides to take a break from driving, all he has to do is to inform his driver and return the key. That's all. And if he's not happy with the hirer, simply return key and walk off. No need to answer to company. No contract to fulfill. See the difference? That's why I'm surprised that being a newbie and not sure of the roads, Liana chose to hire a cab directly from comfort. If she has very good reason like her husband is also a cab driver and hende, sharing the cab with her (then what about sex life??$, or he need a vehicle for her "side business", then I've nothing to say. Else, is she signs up for a new sonata due to newbie enthusiasm, I would advise her to withdraw. Maybe too late though. |
